BGN: Public investment in building MBG kitchens reaches Rp54 trillion
Bogor Regency (ANTARA) - The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) records that public investment amounting to Rp54 trillion has been utilised to build kitchens for the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme or Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) throughout Indonesia.
“Approximately Rp54 trillion in investor funds is now active in the SPPG construction sector,” said BGN Head Dadan Hindayana during the inauguration of SPPG Cijujung 03 in Cijujung Village, Sukaraja Subdistrict, Bogor Regency, West Java, on Wednesday.
Dadan stated that to date, there are around 27,000 SPPG units operating from Sabang to Merauke, all built through public investment and partnerships.
He explained that construction of SPPG by the public is far faster than relying solely on government budgets. In 2025, BGN has a budget of around Rp6 trillion, which can only build 315 units, and not all will be operational.
In contrast, investor involvement enables massive acceleration of MBG kitchen construction in various regions.
Dadan noted that during the construction process, one SPPG unit absorbs around 15 to 20 local workers and drives the circulation of materials in the area.
Once operational, each SPPG manages a budget of around Rp1 billion per month, with 70 percent used to purchase raw materials from farmers, herders, fishermen, and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Meanwhile, around 20 percent of the budget is used for operations, including paying 47 local volunteers with incomes ranging from Rp2.4 million to Rp3.2 million per person, and 10 percent for investment repayment.
“Now, we no longer hear of agricultural products being wasted; everything is utilised as best as possible,” he said.
He added that the MBG programme has involved around 1.1 million volunteers nationwide and provides benefits to around 62 million recipients, including pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers.
According to Dadan, the significant public participation demonstrates that the MBG programme is not only a nutritional intervention but also a community-based national economic driver.
BGN hopes that collaboration between the government, public, and business world can continue to be strengthened to expand the reach of SPPG, including to remote areas, targeting 9,000 units to serve around three million residents.
