Nabire (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Police has received authorisation to build 10 Nutritional Fulfillment Unit (SPPG) kitchens in the underdeveloped, remote, and outermost (3T) regions of Nabire Regency, Central Papua Province, to support the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme.

The Coordinator of the Nabire Region of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Marsel Asyerem, in Nabire on Wednesday, said that the first 3T kitchen had been built by the Nabire Police in the Napan District, which is an island area separated from the city centre of Nabire.

He explained that to reach the 3T category areas, the BGN had mapped the need for 49 SPPG kitchen locations. Of this number, the police have taken on the role of building 10 kitchen units.

According to him, the MBG programme can run optimally in Nabire if 49 SPPG kitchens are built in the 3T regions and 22 kitchens for urban areas.

For urban areas, 12 SPPG kitchens are currently active, and 10 others are under construction.

The BGN recognises two types of SPPG kitchens, namely agglomeration or independent kitchens prepared by the community, and 3T kitchens built in remote and peripheral areas using assets from local governments or the military and police.

“In the villages, there are land owned by the local government, district government, village, police station, police post, or military that can be used for the construction of kitchens,” he said.

He hopes that the construction of 49 SPPG 3T kitchen locations in Nabire can involve indigenous Papuans (OAP), so that it provides economic benefits for the local community.

He added that the standard capacity of the kitchens differs between urban and 3T areas. For independent kitchens, the maximum service is 2,500 portions, while for 3T kitchens, the maximum is 1,000 portions of food.

The BGN aims for the presence of SPPG kitchens in Nabire to be able to reach all school children and target groups (pregnant mothers, breastfeeding mothers and toddlers), both in urban areas and in the 3T regions.

In fact, if there are only a few beneficiaries in one village, services will still be provided through the construction of a kitchen.

“If there are only 6-10 beneficiaries in one village in the 3T region, they will still be served and a kitchen will still be built,” he said.
