The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has provided clarification regarding reports of milk from the Free Nutritious Meals Programme (MBG) being sold in minimarkets, which has sparked widespread discussion on social media. BGN Head, Dadan Hindayana, stated to the media after a coordination meeting with the Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, Zulkifli Hasan, in Jakarta on Thursday, that the agency has never entered into contracts or commitments with any producers concerning the sale and purchase of MBG milk products. “BGN has never made contracts or commitments with any producers. So, if there is a producer that, for marketing purposes, labels their product as school milk, I think that is an initiative by the producer themselves,” he said. Dadan explained that, according to the applicable standard operating procedures (SOP), all Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) are required to purchase MBG milk for beneficiaries from minimarkets or local SMEs to empower local farmers. “All SPPG buy from supermarkets or SMEs; we do not designate specific producers, like ‘we buy this milk from them’. Perhaps some producers are trying to boost sales by offering it on the market,” he added. Meanwhile, Deputy Head of BGN, Nanik Sudaryati Deyang, encountered at the same location, reaffirmed that BGN has never produced milk in any form, let alone under the MBG Programme banner. “We in MBG have never owned or produced milk—no, never. BGN has never made milk,” Nanik stated. Therefore, Nanik requested that the public report any milk or other products found in minimarkets or elsewhere that falsely claim affiliation with BGN or the MBG Programme to the agency’s call centre or complaint service at 127. Previously, netizens had widely discussed products labelled “school milk” claimed to be exclusively for the MBG programme being sold in minimarkets. Netizens shared photos of the products on sale, despite labels reading “Free Milk for MBG Programme, Not for Resale”. The 125 ml packaged milk was observed being sold for around Rp4,000 per package or Rp138,000 per carton.
