Beware of Lippo Protection Plan
Beware of Lippo Protection Plan
From Kompas
I took out an insurance policy with Lippo Protection Plan in
January 1996. I had to pay the monthly premiums into a Lippo Star
account and for the first five months I duly received the
relevant statements from Lippo Star and the debit notes from
Lippo.
After the fifth month they stopped sending the information. I
inquired with customer service and was told that there was no
problem. So I continued paying my premium into the Lippo Star
account.
The next few months passed and I did not receive statements or
notes again. Finally I returned to customer service and found
that my insurance policy had been canceled.
As I had never transacted with Lippo Star, my premium payments
had piled up with them.
I am deeply disappointed with Lippo's service and have
requested that they return the portion of the premium I had paid.
I have written them a letter to that effect but their reply was
only an offer to reestablish the insurance policy.
Why should I reestablish the policy? I was not informed about
the unilateral cancellation which I discovered after a series of
inquiries. What would have been the settlement if there had been
a claim? I fear that they do not even know where they filed the
contract.
What about a customer's rights? If the fault lies with the
customer, he/she is chased mercilessly but if the company is at
fault they wash their hands.
Is a settlement, by way of an offer to reestablish the
insurance policy, adequate? I am not claiming indemnification, I
only want the rightful return of the premiums paid.
