JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Ministry of Transportation has urged all transportation operators in every mode to prioritise safety during the 2026 Lebaran return flow.

Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi emphasised that operators must ensure the operational fitness of vehicles and infrastructure, the readiness of vehicle crew, and heightened vigilance against potential bad weather.

Dudy stated that safety must always be the top priority, especially during the return flow period which has the potential for a surge in public movement.

In particular, Dudy reminded the importance of complying with working hours and rest time regulations for drivers as an effort to prevent fatigue that risks journey safety.

Drivers are urged to rest adequately in accordance with regulations, not to push themselves when tired, and to utilise available rest areas.

“Moreover, the physical condition and health of vehicle crew must be properly maintained to remain in top form in providing services to the public,” he said.

As of 23 March 2026, 60,946 public land transportation vehicles, 836 ships have undergone seaworthiness tests, while for ferry services, 232 ships have been inspected, with 91.34 percent meeting standards.

For air transportation, 372 aircraft fleets are in serviceable condition out of a total of 564 units (65.9 percent), and in the railway sector, 3,679 facilities have undergone ramp checks with a fitness rate of 99.78 percent.
