Bengkulu City (ANTARA) – Bengkulu City Police Resort is conducting alert briefings and security patrols throughout Ramadan 1447 Hijriah to maintain public order and safety, whilst anticipating youth delinquency, particularly motorcycle gang activity.

The patrols are being carried out at various gathering points where young people congregate at night and at dimly-lit food stalls across Bengkulu.

“We are inviting the community to jointly maintain security and order in our city, particularly during Ramadan,” said Bengkulu City Police Chief, Commissioner Rahmad Hidayat, in Bengkulu, Bengkulu Province, on Saturday.

To create a safe and comfortable environment for all residents in Bengkulu requires cooperation from all stakeholders, as maintaining security and order is the responsibility of everyone, not just security personnel alone.

To this end, police are urging all residents to assist in maintaining security and order in Bengkulu City.

Additionally, school-aged children are urged not to loiter at night and to be at home before 21:00 WIB.

“We ask the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities,” he said.

He stated that conducting nightly patrols can increase public awareness of the importance of maintaining security and order in Bengkulu City.

Meanwhile, Bengkulu City Government will soon implement a curfew for primary and secondary school students in the area to reduce the potential for youth delinquency.

To this end, Bengkulu Mayor Dedy Wahyudi will issue a circular letter regarding the implementation of the curfew for students to ensure they are at home at the appropriate time for rest and study.

“If they go out after the designated curfew time, that is no longer study time. Officers from community security units and civil police, assisted by police and military personnel, will conduct patrols to provide understanding and request they return home immediately,” he explained.

The study hours regulated by the curfew are 18:00 to 21:00 WIB, and students are prohibited from loitering or gathering outside their homes after 21:00 WIB.

He noted that in addition to conducting patrols in the field, the city government also emphasises the crucial role of parents in supervising their children, and parents are asked not to be negligent if their children have not returned home late at night.

“We ask parents to be more attentive. If by 22:00 your child has not returned, please search for them and ensure they come home. Do not allow our children to wander aimlessly until the early morning hours,” he said.
