The chairperson of the University of Indonesia Student Executive Board (BEM UI), Yatalathof Ma’shum Imawan, stated that the organisation presented five demands during a protest at National Police Headquarters in Jakarta on the afternoon of Friday, 27 February 2026. One of the primary demands called for the resignation of Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

Yatalathof, commonly known as Athof, emphasised that Indonesia requires urgent police reform, arguing that changes in police leadership have not resolved numerous problems within the force.

“Whenever one mistake is resolved, even if the punishment is unjust, another new case emerges,” said Athof on Friday, 27 February 2026. “It’s as if the police are like someone constantly digging holes and filling them again.”

Athof cited examples including the Kanjuruhan stadium incident in Malang and recent events in Maluku, noting that whilst cases are eventually resolved, there is no guarantee that similar incidents will not occur in the future.

“From Kanjuruhan until now, it feels like we’re just going through the motions. Every day brings something new, every year brings something new,” Athof stated in frustration.

Athof explained that BEM UI has prepared a reform proposal for the National Police, which would be presented to representatives at headquarters if they agreed to meet with protest participants. The proposal includes recommendations regarding police officers serving in civilian positions and their adherence to Constitutional Court rulings that remain unenforced.

BEM UI’s five demands are:

  1. Demanding the heaviest possible criminal sentence for the police officer who murdered AR and all law enforcement officers responsible for repressive actions.

  2. Demanding the removal of Listyo Sigit from the position of Police Chief and Dadang Hartanto from the position of Police Chief for the Maluku province.

  3. Demanding the release of all political detainees facing criminalisation.

  4. Demanding the enforcement of boundaries on police authority and the withdrawal of the National Police from civilian positions.

  5. Demanding concrete results from structural, cultural, and instrumental police reform through the Police Reform Acceleration Commission.
