        "content": "<p>The chairperson of the University of Indonesia Student Executive\nBoard (BEM UI), Yatalathof Ma\u2019shum Imawan, stated that the organisation\npresented five demands during a protest at National Police Headquarters\nin Jakarta on the afternoon of Friday, 27 February 2026. One of the\nprimary demands called for the resignation of Police Chief General\nListyo Sigit Prabowo.<\/p>\n<p>Yatalathof, commonly known as Athof, emphasised that Indonesia\nrequires urgent police reform, arguing that changes in police leadership\nhave not resolved numerous problems within the force.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhenever one mistake is resolved, even if the punishment is unjust,\nanother new case emerges,\u201d said Athof on Friday, 27 February 2026. \u201cIt\u2019s\nas if the police are like someone constantly digging holes and filling\nthem again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Athof cited examples including the Kanjuruhan stadium incident in\nMalang and recent events in Maluku, noting that whilst cases are\neventually resolved, there is no guarantee that similar incidents will\nnot occur in the future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom Kanjuruhan until now, it feels like we\u2019re just going through\nthe motions. Every day brings something new, every year brings something\nnew,\u201d Athof stated in frustration.<\/p>\n<p>Athof explained that BEM UI has prepared a reform proposal for the\nNational Police, which would be presented to representatives at\nheadquarters if they agreed to meet with protest participants. The\nproposal includes recommendations regarding police officers serving in\ncivilian positions and their adherence to Constitutional Court rulings\nthat remain unenforced.<\/p>\n<p>BEM UI\u2019s five demands are:<\/p>\n<ol type=\"1\">\n<li><p>Demanding the heaviest possible criminal sentence for the police\nofficer who murdered AR and all law enforcement officers responsible for\nrepressive actions.<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>Demanding the removal of Listyo Sigit from the position of Police\nChief and Dadang Hartanto from the position of Police Chief for the\nMaluku province.<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>Demanding the release of all political detainees facing\ncriminalisation.<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>Demanding the enforcement of boundaries on police authority and\nthe withdrawal of the National Police from civilian positions.<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>Demanding concrete results from structural, cultural, and\ninstrumental police reform through the Police Reform Acceleration\nCommission.<\/p><\/li>\n<\/ol>",
