Belitung doesn't receive 'TPI'
Belitung doesn't receive 'TPI'
From Media Indonesia
During his visit to Belitung regency, South Sumatra in July
1995, the chairman of the functional group (Golkar) promised that
Belitung community would be able to receive TPI (Indonesian
Educational Television) without the virtue of parabola antenna as
of October 1995. The promise was made before tens of thousands of
people at Tanjung Pandan sports stadium.
But until now, not only can't we get TPI, but the reception of
state-owned TVRI's broadcast is not satisfactory either.
Meanwhile, the local officials seem to be indifferent over the
people's demand because they have parabola antennas and can enjoy
themselves.
However, we are fully aware that to build a TV station is a
tremendously costly business. In this case we would like to
suggest that the private television companies jointly build a
relay station on Mt. Tajam. The ex-workers of PT Timah, who are
now unemployed and have technical know-how in this area, could be
recruited to man the station.
