Bekasi Skatepark Damaged Within a Month of Ridwan Kamil's Inauguration
Skate and BMX facilities at the Creative Centre in Bekasi City, on Lapangan Serbaguna Road, Margahayu Village, East Bekasi District, have reportedly been damaged within a month of their inauguration.
The extreme sports facility was constructed during the tenure of West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil and inaugurated in 2022.
‘Not long after the inauguration, it probably didn’t even last a month before it was already ruined. The bowl area was unusable from the start,’ said Ade Tri Utama, 43, founder of Patriot Skate Club 95 Bekasi, known as Odeng, when confirmed by Kompas.com via WhatsApp on Monday, 25 May 2026.
He noted that skateboarders had only used the facility twice: during World Skateboard Day and the FDR Skateboard League event.
‘It was necessary to carry out repairs and maintenance before each event,’ he added.
He acknowledged that the Creative Centre concept was sound, integrating a skatepark, BMX track, multipurpose hall, park, and multi-purpose field in one area.
However, Odeng said the construction quality did not meet professional skatepark standards. He noted that the community had provided input during planning, but it was ignored during construction.
‘But it turned out to be good only in concept and design. During construction and execution, the community’s input was not heeded,’ Odeng said.
He even claimed the skatepark’s design was his own, but he was not involved further in the project’s execution.
Odeng believes that with appropriate budgeting and specialist contractors, such a facility should last three to five years with minimal maintenance.
‘For a skatepark of that size, a budget of IDR 1 billion should suffice for competitions and ensure durability over three to five years with minimal maintenance,’ he said.
He added that similar issues have been reported at other skateparks in West Java built during the same period.
