The Bekasi Metro Police raided a rented house used as a storage facility for thousands of tablets of type G hard drugs, specifically tramadol, and arrested one suspect in the Pasir Gombong village area, North Cikarang sub-district, Bekasi Regency, West Java.

“From the raid, officers secured a man with the initials T, aged 53, along with evidence of 500 sheets or 5,000 tramadol tablets stored in a black fishing bag,” said Bekasi Metro Police Chief Commissioner Sumarni in a statement on Thursday (February 26).

At the same location, officers also secured evidence of Rp684,000 in cash, allegedly from sales, and one mobile phone used by the suspect for transactions. The rented house was allegedly deliberately chosen as a storage location to mislead local residents.

The Police Chief revealed that the raid began with reports from the public who were concerned about suspicious activity in the area. After an investigation, police immediately took action.

“Based on information from residents, this location was allegedly frequently used as a place for storing and trading illegal hard drugs. After an investigation, officers immediately took action,” said Sumarni.

Moving to the second location, still on the same day, officers again took action in the Sukamanah area. Two men with the initials K, 33, and H, 22, were also secured.

“From the two, police confiscated 25 sheets or about 250 tramadol tablets, three mobile phones, and a number of items allegedly used as a means of storage and transaction,” he said.

Sumarni emphasized that the circulation of hard drugs without a permit is one of the focuses of eradication because of its damaging impact, especially on young people.

“This type G drug is often misused and can be dangerous to health. We will continue to take firm action against perpetrators of illegal hard drug trafficking,” he said.

The Police Chief said that this action refers to Law Number 17 of 2023 concerning Health regarding the supervision and enforcement of hard drugs without a distribution permit.

The three suspects are now being held at the Bekasi Metro Police Headquarters for further examination. Police are also investigating the possibility of a larger distribution network behind the illegal drug trafficking.

“All suspected perpetrators will be processed in accordance with applicable legal provisions. This action is also proof of the police’s seriousness in tackling the circulation of illegal hard drugs that have the potential to harm public health, especially the younger generation,” he said.

This discovery is a warning that the illegal hard drug business is still targeting residential areas. The police continue to invite the public to actively report suspicious activities in order to keep the environment safe and conducive. (H-3)
