Bekasi Police Arrest Five Suspects in Case of University Student Found Dead in Apartment
Bekasi Regency (ANTARA) - The Bekasi Metropolitan Police (Polres) have arrested five individuals suspected of involvement in the case of a university student found dead in an apartment in the North Cikarang sub-district, following the conclusion of the criminal investigation.
"Officers have named five perpetrators as suspects for their alleged involvement in a chain of events that led to the victim's death," said Bekasi Metropolitan Police Chief Senior Commissioner Sumarni in Cikarang on Monday.
He explained that the case originated from a public report regarding the discovery of a female university student from East Cikarang found dead at the Riverview Tower Mahakam Apartment in North Cikarang sub-district, Bekasi Regency.
Officers who received the report immediately proceeded to the scene and found the victim, identified by the initials PAF (20), deceased inside an apartment room. The incident occurred on Wednesday (11 February).
Officers subsequently evacuated the victim's body to the National Police Medical Centre Hospital (RS TK I Pusdokkes Polri) for an autopsy, whilst the investigation into the case commenced.
Based on the investigation findings, the victim was known to have arrived at the location with several acquaintances and was suspected of having consumed illegally obtained abortion medication. After consuming the drug, the victim's health deteriorated until she lost consciousness and was pronounced dead.
Through further case development, investigators apprehended five suspects allegedly involved in the sale and chain distribution of the medication, namely SN alias F, ADY, H alias H, EA alias E, and NF.
The suspects are alleged to have profited from the sale of the drug that was ultimately consumed by the victim.
Police are also still pursuing another individual with the initials R, who has been placed on the wanted persons list.
A number of items of evidence were also seized, including several mobile phones, motor vehicles, remnants of the medication believed to have been used by the victim, and other items related to the incident.
The suspects are now undergoing further investigation and have been charged under articles relating to premeditated murder, homicide, and other criminal offences connected to the distribution of illegal drugs in accordance with prevailing legal provisions.
Sumarni affirmed that his office would complete the dismantling of the illegal drug distribution network, including tracing the drug supply chain back to the main suppliers, in order to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
The Police Chief urged the public to immediately report any suspected narcotics trafficking or other dangerous drug distribution to officers, the nearest police station, or the complaint channels that have been provided.
He also highlighted the availability of an interactive service called "Direct Chat with the Bekasi Metropolitan Police Chief's Wife" (CLBK) for all residents who require police assistance or wish to submit information and complaints.
Information can be conveyed directly by the public by contacting the Bekasi Metropolitan Police Chief's Wife's WhatsApp number at 081383990086, the National Police call centre at 110, or the 24-hour complaint line at 08111939110.
