Bekasi man arrested for killing his mother
JAKARTA (JP): A 60-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her own son in their house at Sukarapih Village in Tambelang, Bekasi, Monday evening.
Bekasi police said yesterday that Nuraeni was killed by her son Firman, alias Al Iman, 20, who is strongly believed to suffer from hallucinations.
Firman, an employee of a private firm, is now in police custody at Tambelang police station awaiting further interrogation.
"Based on preliminary investigations and questioning, the suspect is believed to have been suffering from hallucinations," a Bekasi police officer told The Jakarta Post. He also hinted that Firman might be suffering from a mental disorder.
During the questioning, Firman said he did not realize that he had murdered his mother.
He was aware that he had done so only when he saw the neck of his mother detached from her body.
Firman thought that the person approaching him when he woke up from a nap on Monday was a horrible creature with blazing eyes, upright hair and chuckling laughter.
In reality it was his loving mother who was carrying a bowl of porridge and a boiled egg for Firman to break his fast.
According to Firman, he had not slept well the night before due to frightening sounds coming from the roof of the house. He said in an effort to rid himself of his fright, he performed an evening prayer.
In the morning, he took a long nap until late in the afternoon, when he woke up and found the porridge and egg had been left near him.
After he finished the meal, Firman suddenly realized that he was doing a routine Monday fast that day.
His mother had said she noticed that he had not slept well the previous night and, therefore, advised Firman to break his fast before the allowable time for the sake of his health.
However, Firman told the police, what he saw talking to him was not his mother, but a horrifying creature. So, he immediately took a machete from the kitchen and fatally wounded the poor and unsuspecting woman by stabbing her several times. (bsr)
