The incident immediately caused panic and hysteria among passengers on both trains and the station platform.
One passenger named Munir said that the force of the collision caused the KA Argo Bromo locomotive to enter the rear KRL carriage, resulting in severe damage.
“Basically, it was hit from the rear; the long-distance train driver’s carriage penetrated the carriage,” said Munir at the location on Monday.
He added that the women’s-only carriage suffered the most severe damage.
Several passengers inside had difficulty evacuating themselves because the exit was blocked by seats and damaged parts of the carriage.
