Bekasi City Government Reviews Operational Permit for Cimuning SPBE Following Fire
Bekasi City Government will review the permit for the Bulk LPG Filling Station (SPBE) in Cimuning, Mustikajaya District, following the fire on Wednesday night, 1 April 2026.
“We are currently examining (the permit for Cimuning SPBE). This area was previously quiet and empty,” stated Deputy Mayor of Bekasi, Abdul Harris Bobihoe, while inspecting the fire site at Cimuning SPBE on Thursday, 2 April 2026.
Harris suspects that the owner built the SPBE when the Cimuning area was still sparsely populated, hoping the location would be far from settlements.
“I think they tried, but if they want to rebuild this facility, we need to conduct a more in-depth study and implement more serious security measures,” he said.
He added that stricter security is necessary because the location is considered vital and has the potential to trigger a large-scale fire.
“Even around 200 metres from the site, some houses were burned,” he explained.
“The burned land covers about 2,000 square metres. Preliminary suspicions point to an electrical short circuit,” said Acting Head of the Bekasi City Fire and Rescue Department (Disdamkarmat), Heryanto, to journalists near the fire site on Thursday.
As a result of the fire, nearly the entire SPBE area suffered severe damage.
According to Heryanto, the fire occurred while the SPBE was in operation, increasing the risks, including the potential for gas explosions.
“Gas like this requires special handling and must be mapped out where the fire sources are,” he said.
Officers had to be extra cautious to prevent subsequent explosions, making the response more complex than a typical fire.
