The Bekasi City Spatial Planning Department (Distaru) has begun demolishing several buildings in the Bulak Kapal area, East Bekasi. This action is being taken to expedite the construction of the Bulak Kapal flyover project, which aims to alleviate traffic congestion.

“This morning, our team, which deals with violations of building permits in Bekasi City, is carrying out the demolition of land or buildings that have been acquired by the government, namely the Ministry of Public Works, for the construction of the flyover,” said the Head of the Incentives and Disincentives Section and Building Demolition of Bekasi Distaru, Tarmuji, in Bulak Kapal, East Bekasi, Thursday (February 26, 2026).

He explained that there are nine buildings in total, consisting of four privately owned buildings and five buildings located on land owned by Jasa Marga. The demolition today involves three privately owned buildings for which compensation has already been paid.

Meanwhile, one building located on land owned by Jasa Marga has already been demolished independently since last week. The remaining five buildings will be demolished in the near future.

Tarmuji said that the length of the land being demolished at this point reaches approximately 150 meters. Most of the buildings being demolished are commercial establishments.

“There are various types of businesses, such as shops and showrooms, and behind us, there is a ‘warteg’ (small roadside restaurant) that has been closed. So, most of them are used for commercial purposes,” he explained.

The Bulak Kapal flyover project is planned to extend to Jalan Pahlawan and cross the railway tracks. The flyover is expected to provide a solution to the severe traffic congestion that often occurs in the area.

The Bekasi City Government stated that it will continue to demolish buildings that do not comply with regulations in stages, in line with the progress of land acquisition carried out by the relevant ministry.

“After the land has been acquired and compensation has been paid, we will continue with the demolition,” he concluded.
