Beijing's diplomacy in U.S.

Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian stressed that Beijing's
military posture was entirely defensive but reiterated that China
had not renounced the use of force against Taiwan.

His presence in Washington last week showed the thawing of
relations between the U.S. and china. Despite stark differences
on issues relating to human rights and Asia-Pacific defense, both
countries are embarking on a new beginning. What more, China is
trying hard to be accepted as a member of the WTO, something the
U.S. has all along opposed. By allowing U.S. naval ships to visit
Hong Kong after the handover, Beijing is showing the world its
suave diplomatic efforts.
