JAKARTA — Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has highlighted the impact of the global conflict occurring in the Middle East on Indonesia’s economic conditions.

Pramono made the remarks before Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Chairman Jusuf Kalla during a joint iftar gathering at the West Jakarta Mayor’s Office in Kembangan on Monday, 9 March 2026.

He assessed that the war involving Iran, Israel and the United States has the potential to create significant pressure, ranging from rising commodity prices to currency fluctuations.

He acknowledged that whenever he meets with Kalla, discussions often centre on global dynamics and their impact on Indonesia.

“Today, global oil prices have risen significantly. With the war happening now, we will go through difficult times that we must manage together,” he said.

Pramono believed that the global situation demands solidarity and mutual cooperation so that Indonesia can withstand the potential pressures.

“Therefore, togetherness, mutual cooperation, and trust are key to how we as a great nation can face this,” Pramono said.

On this occasion, Pramono also instructed Jakarta provincial government officials to maintain stability and vigilance in the face of the uncertain global situation.

He explained that prolonged conflict could trigger significant changes in global supply chains.

As a result, prices of goods and services could increase.

“Why is the impact so significant? The supply chain will undergo significant changes. This will certainly cause goods and services to rise as well. The exchange rate will also definitely rise and this will put pressure on our state budget,” Pramono stated.
