Three days before Eid al-Fitr, the prices of staple goods, particularly beef, at Pamanukan Market in Subang Regency, West Java, on 19 March 2026, have risen to Rp 180,000 per kilogram. Previously, beef prices ranged from Rp 150,000 to Rp 160,000 at the beginning of Ramadan.

The price increase has not deterred public interest in purchasing. Since morning, meat sellers have been swarmed by buyers, predominantly housewives. They are willing to queue to obtain quality beef for Lebaran meal preparations.

One buyer, Eni, admitted to still purchasing beef despite the higher price. According to her, needs ahead of Lebaran have increased demand for beef, so she must adjust her spending.

“Due to the many orders and needs ahead of Lebaran, whether we like it or not, we still have to buy even though the price has risen,” said Eni on Thursday (19/3).

Meat traders also confirmed the surge in demand over the past few days. Besides the high public needs, the price increase is also triggered by the rising cost of cattle at the supplier level.

Beef trader Sufia said the selling price adjustment was made to avoid losses for traders. She explained that the price of cattle purchased from suppliers is already more expensive compared to the beginning of Ramadan.

“The price of cattle from there has also risen, so we adjust the selling price to avoid losses,” said Sufia.

Although beef prices continue to climb ahead of Lebaran, buying and selling activities at Pamanukan Market remain bustling. Residents choose to continue purchasing because beef is one of the main ingredients for typical Eid al-Fitr dishes.
