Jakarta — The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) reports that beef, raw chilli, and chicken eggs have contributed to inflation increases across several regions ahead of the celebration of Eid al-Fitr 1447 AH.

Ateng Hartono, deputy head of BPS’s Distribution and Services Statistics division, stated that these findings are based on survey results from the second week of March 2026.

“The commodities that have contributed to the increase in the Price Growth Index (IPH) in the second week of March 2026 are primarily raw chilli, beef, and chicken eggs,” said Ateng during a virtual coordination meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs in Jakarta on Monday, 16 March 2026.

In addition to these three commodities, raw chilli and chicken meat have also contributed to inflation. “The main increases, with quite substantial contributions, are beef, chicken meat, and also rice,” said Ateng.

According to regional analysis, the highest Price Growth Index increase reached 3.17 per cent in Sumatra, specifically in Bener Meriah district, Aceh. This inflation was driven by prices of beef, chicken meat, and rice.

Subsequently, Bintan district in Riau Islands experienced a Price Growth Index increase of 3.04 per cent, also influenced by beef and chicken prices.

An increase in the Price Growth Index in Tulang Bawang Barat, Lampung, was driven by beef and chicken prices.

In Brebes, Central Java, the Price Growth Index rose 3.07 per cent due to raw chilli prices, chicken meat, and beef prices. “Chicken meat, raw chilli, and also slightly shallots,” noted Ateng.

Ponorogo, Pasuruan, and Malang districts in East Java also experienced Price Growth Index increases caused by raw chilli and chicken prices.

In Pekalongan, Central Java, the Price Growth Index increased 2.31 per cent due to raw chilli and chicken meat prices.

“In Banten, specifically in Tangerang district, and in West Java in Cirebon district, the increases were primarily driven by raw chilli price rises,” stated Ateng.
