Indonesia’s National Zakat Agency (Baznas) has established the zakat nisab for income and services in 2026 at 7.64 million rupiah per month, or 91.68 million rupiah per year, setting the minimum income threshold at which a Muslim must pay the mandatory 2.5 percent zakat.

The determination resulted from a consultation on zakat income and services nisab held on Friday, 20 February, taking into account Islamic principles, regulatory requirements, and the nation’s economic conditions. The figure is based on the price of 14-carat gold with an equivalent value of 85 grams of gold.

The nisab value this year has increased by 7 percent compared to 2025. This adjustment aligns with the annual wage increase trend recorded at 6.17 percent.

“We cannot allow a vacuum in standards. In managing national zakat, there must be clear benchmarks, as Baznas is the regulator in this matter. This standard serves as a reference for all zakat management bodies,” said Baznas Chair Noor Achmad in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Noor explained that the agency considered not only normative aspects but also the impact on services to zakat recipients (mustahik) that have been carried out through various poverty alleviation programmes.

Therefore, the decision to use 14-carat gold represents a balance between compliance with Islamic provisions and the welfare of the Muslim community, whilst maintaining consideration for the average income of the public so as not to burden zakat payers (muzaki), yet optimally support the empowerment of mustahik.

Noor explained that setting the 14-carat gold standard is considered relevant because it has a value relatively equivalent to the price of premium rice, whilst still adhering to silver parameters and the Non-Zakat Income threshold (PTKZ).

The policy is therefore assessed to be capable of maintaining a balance between fairness aspects for muzaki and protection of mustahik.

“Thus, the decision on this nisab has met the elements of Islamic compliance, regulatory compliance, and consideration of the interests of both muzaki and mustahik,” stated Noor Achmad.

This consultation decision was formalised in Baznas Chair Decree No. 15 of 2026 regarding the Value of Zakat Nisab for Income and Services in 2026 on Saturday, 21 February 2026.
