Baznas RI Targets Slaughter of One Million Goats for Eid al-Adha 1447 H
The potential for sacrificial offerings in Indonesia is immense, not only from a religious perspective but also as a means to strengthen the Muslim community’s economy and promote equitable welfare distribution.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) RI is targeting the slaughter of one million animals equivalent to sheep or goats, with an economic value of Rp2.5 trillion, during the Eid al-Adha or Eid al-Kurban 1447 Hijriah/2026 nationwide.
“For this year, after considering various aspects such as capacity, collection base, availability of livestock, and the economic conditions of the community, a target of 1 million sheep/goats with a value of around Rp2.5 trillion has been set, to be managed by Baznas across Indonesia and Zakat Amil Institutions (LAZ),” said Baznas RI Chairman Sodik Mudjahid during a press conference launching the Blessed Sacrifice Empowering Villages 2026 in Jakarta on Friday.
Sodik stated that the target was formulated based on the 2025 sacrificial realisations of Rp2.3 trillion or equivalent to 790,554 sheep or goats managed by Baznas and Zakat Amil Institutions (LAZ).
In addition, during the 2025 sacrificial momentum, community-led sacrificial realisations were recorded at Rp18.8 trillion or equivalent to 1,962,575 sheep or goats.
“The potential for sacrifices in Indonesia is very large, not only from the aspect of worship but also as a strengthening of the Muslim community’s economy and equitable welfare distribution. In 2025, the national sacrificial economic potential is estimated to reach around Rp34.85 trillion. This is a great strength of the ummah that must be managed optimally so that its benefits are even broader,” said Sodik.
Sodik explained that the advantage of sacrificing through Baznas lies in its multi-layered impact. In addition to being distributed to those in need, the sacrificial animals also come from empowerment programmes for mustahik livestock farmers through the Baznas Livestock Centres spread across various regions.
Therefore, Baznas has prepared thousands of livestock from Baznas Livestock Centres in various areas and is engaging broad community participation.
From the distribution side, Baznas ensures that sacrificial meat reaches all of Indonesia, including 3T regions (disadvantaged, frontier, outermost), food-vulnerable areas, and regions with limited access to sacrificial meat.
In addition to fresh meat, said Sodik, Baznas is introducing innovations in sacrifices in the form of processed and canned packaging to reach hard-to-access areas.
“Insya Allah, sacrifices fulfilled through Baznas will provide broader blessings, strengthen social solidarity, and bring justice to communities in need,” said Sodik Mudjahid.
