Bayer, Asia Pulp sign deal

LEVERKUSEN, Germany (Reuter): German chemicals and drugs group Bayer AG said yesteray it had signed a licensing agreement for paper products with Singapore's Asia Pulp and Paper Co..

In a statement, Bayer said it had agreed to license its Baymicron micro capsules for the production of carbonless copying paper to AP & P.

The agreement also includes AP&P's Indonesian affiliate P.T. Pindo Deli and a planned product in China. The contract was signed June 19 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Carbonless copying paper is used in business form sheets for credit card receipts, bills, and other office documents and some 2.8 million tons of the product were sold worldwide last year.

The Baymicron technology works when a pen's pressure destroys the capsules and transfers the colour formers onto the next sheet.
