Batam to turn Rempang, Galang islands in to main FTZ
Batam (ANTARA News) - The Batam city administration is set to turn the two nearby islands of Rempang and Galang into a main zone in implementing the planned free trade zone (FTZ) scheme in Batam.
"The city administration will submit a draft regulation to amend Bylaw No.2/2004 on the 2004-2010 spatial layout plan to adjust it to the FTZ in Batam," Batam Mayor Ahmad Dahlan said here Tuesday.
Although the islands remained in a status quo, the city administration and the Batam Authority had agreed to jointly manage the islands in implementing the FTZ, he said.
"All land-related problems there will be settled in accordance with the existing procedure," he said.
The islands had a detailed engineering design (DED) besides two dams to meet the need for clean water, he said.
He said the islands would also be developed into a maritim industrial hub, tourist resort and agricultural area. (*)
