Indonesia’s demand for high-speed bandwidth is entering a new phase. Matrix NAP Info has announced the successful activation of the GeoMesh Extreme solution from Ciena, supported by coherent optical WaveLogic 6 Extreme (WL6e) technology on the Batam–Jakarta segment of the Matrix Cable System (MCS). This strategic move promises maximum spectral efficiency and readiness of the infrastructure to handle surging AI workloads and global cloud services. The Batam–Jakarta segment, spanning 1,055 km, can now deliver capacities of up to 1 Tb/s per wavelength channel. This upgrade goes beyond a simple capacity addition; using WL6e enables Matrix NAP Info to optimise the existing submarine cable without laying new fibre. The technology drives spectral efficiency to its theoretical limit, meaning capacity per hertz of spectrum is much higher than in previous generations. The project was implemented in collaboration with Terrabit Networks as an accredited Ciena partner and supported by Ciena Services, which handled pre-implementation planning through end-to-end network lifecycle management. Omar Syarif Nasution, Director of Matrix NAP Info, emphasised that this achievement signals the company’s position in the global connectivity landscape. ‘We ensure customers have access to the bandwidth needed to compete in the AI and cloud era,’ he said. Alex Wong of Ciena ASEAN noted that Indonesia is developing into a strategic hub in the Asia-Pacific.
