Batam inter-islands bridge

JAKARTA (JP): PT Waskita Karya, a Ministry of Public Works construction company, has finished building a 365-meter-long bridge which links the Setoko and Rempang islands, near Batam island.

Waskita's president, Christiawan, said yesterday that construction of the bridge, which started in October 1993 and ended last month, cost about Rp 43 billion (US$17.92 million).

The bridge is 18 meters wide and 19 meters high.

He said the bridge was the third of its kind to be built by Waskita. The first bridge was over Siak river, Jambi, and the second was the Ampera bridge over Musi river, South Sumatra. (bnt)
