Residents of Batam City have shown strong enthusiasm for the sacrificial animal slaughter service at the District Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD) of Batam City Animal Slaughterhouse (RPH). All slots for the four-day service period have been fully booked.

The slaughter service is scheduled to run from Eid al-Adha to the Days of Tashriq, from 27 to 30 May 2026.

Leny Hermayanti, head of Batam City UPTD RPH, said registrations opened on 30 April 2026 via social media and WhatsApp, but high public demand quickly filled all slots.

‘Alhamdulillah, registrations for the four-day service period from Eid al-Adha to the Days of Tashriq are now full,’ she said on Monday (25 May).

This year, 72 sacrificial animals have been registered for slaughter at Batam RPH, comprising 36 cows and 36 goats.

She attributed the high demand to the facilities at Batam RPH, which ensure that the sacrificial meat meets ASUH principles—safe, healthy, intact, and halal—supported by adequate slaughter infrastructure.

Each animal undergoes pre-slaughter health checks (antemortem) and post-slaughter inspections (postmortem) by government veterinarians.

Slaughter is carried out by certified Halal Slaughterers (Juleha), a key feature ensuring public confidence in the service.

Batam resident Nurman, 45, said he chose the RPH service due to the assured cleanliness and halal compliance of the slaughter process.

‘The RPH has veterinary checks and certified Juleha, so we feel more at ease knowing the sacrificial meat distributed to the public is safe and halal,’ he said.

Another resident, Asmien, 33, said she had planned to register her family’s sacrificial animal at Batam RPH but missed out as all slots were filled.

‘I wanted to register my family’s animal, but the slots are full. Hopefully next year capacity can be increased given the high demand,’ she said. (H-2)
