Bareskrim Uncovers Subsidised Fuel and LPG Mafia, State Suffers Rp1.26 Trillion Loss
Bareskrim Polri has uncovered a series of criminal acts involving the misuse of subsidised Fuel Oil (BBM) and LPG throughout the 2025 to 2026 period. These illegal practices are reported to have caused potential state losses reaching Rp1.26 trillion.
Deputy Chief of Bareskrim Polri, Inspector General Nunung Syaifuddin, explained that the figure represents the accumulation of subsidy budget leakages diverted by irresponsible individuals for personal gain.
βIt is known that the criminal acts of misusing subsidised BBM and LPG have resulted in potential state financial leakages of Rp1,266,160,963,200,β Nunung stated during a press conference at Polri Headquarters in South Jakarta on Tuesday (7/4).
Nunung detailed that the total losses consist of Rp516.8 billion from subsidised BBM misuse and Rp749.2 billion from subsidised LPG. He emphasised that energy subsidies should be the right of those in need in society, not a commodity for personal enrichment.
According to police analysis, the main factor behind the prevalence of this misuse is the high disparity or price difference between subsidised and non-subsidised products. This large profit margin is exploited by perpetrators to carry out diversions in the field.
Despite the high level of misuse, the government is assured to maintain current subsidy prices to safeguard economic stability and public purchasing power. Consequently, Polri will drastically tighten supervision along distribution routes.
Nunung affirmed that Bareskrim Polri will continue to monitor the national energy distribution flow sustainably. This step is taken to ensure that subsidies truly reach their intended targets and to prevent state budget leakages.
