Bareskrim Uncovers Distribution of 12.9 Tonnes of Expired Lamb Meat
The Bareskrim Polri has uncovered a case of alleged consumer and food protection violations related to the distribution of expired imported lamb meat in the Tangerang region. The case was revealed at a press conference held at the warehouse of PT Lang-Lang Buana, Serang Highway, Cibadak, Cikupa, Tangerang, on Monday, 16 March 2026.
Head of Bareskrim Polri’s Mobile Operations Unit (Satresmob), Senior Commissioner Teuku Arsya Khadafi, explained that the investigation began following public reports of plans to sell imported lamb carcasses from Australia that had exceeded their expiry dates. The information was treated seriously by authorities given the increased demand for meat ahead of Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
Following up on the report, Bareskrim’s mobile operations team conducted investigation and surveillance of meat distribution activities. Officers secured three trucks carrying approximately 9 tonnes of expired imported lamb meat that were scheduled for distribution to wholesalers for sale to consumers.
Additionally, officers expanded the operation by securing two warehouses in Batuceper and Cikupa, Tangerang. The locations yielded additional evidence of expired imported lamb meat, bringing the total seized goods to approximately 12.9 tonnes.
Deputy Director of Criminal Investigation at Bareskrim Polri, Senior Commissioner Setyo K. Heriyatno, stated that investigators examined 10 witnesses and identified four suspects: IY as the seller, T and AR as intermediaries, and SS as a buyer who resold the meat to market traders. The suspects have been charged under the Consumer Protection, Food and Trade Laws, facing maximum penalties of five years’ imprisonment or fines up to 2 billion rupiahs.
