Bareskrim Threatens to Impoverish Perpetrators Injecting Subsidised LPG Gas into Non-Subsidised Cylinders
JAKARTA - The Director of Specific Crimes (Dirtipidter) of Bareskrim Polri, Brigadier General Irhamni, has revealed that his agency will apply money laundering offence provisions (TPPU) to impoverish perpetrators of subsidised fuel and LPG misuse.
“Of course, we will apply the Oil and Gas Law provisions alongside the TPPU Law to impoverish these criminal actors,” Irhamni stated in a press release on Sunday (3/5/2026).
Irhamni explained that subsidies are a government policy to alleviate the burden on the public. Therefore, he said, any misuse of subsidised goods constitutes a serious crime that causes significant harm.
This is similar to the uncovering of a case involving the misuse of subsidised BBM and LPG in Klaten. In that case, Bareskrim named two suspects: KA, the gas injector, and ARP, the pick-up truck driver transporting the gas.
Investigators seized a large quantity of evidence, including 435 empty 3kg cylinders, 514 filled 3kg cylinders, 262 empty 12kg cylinders, 196 filled 12kg cylinders, and 58 filled 50kg cylinders.
Additionally, police confiscated six pick-up vehicles of various brands, three trolleys, two sitting scales, 25 regulator hoses for 50kg cylinders, 59 regulator hoses for 12kg cylinders, and 250 yellow cylinder seal caps.
“The investigation will continue to be developed to uncover a wider network,” Irhamni said.
Bareskrim Polri uncovered the modus operandi of subsidised LPG misuse in Klaten Regency, Central Java, by transferring the contents of 3kg subsidised LPG cylinders into non-subsidised 12kg and 50kg cylinders for resale at higher prices.
“Gas from subsidised cylinders is transferred to non-subsidised cylinders using specific techniques, then sold at non-subsidised prices to gain profit,” said the Director of Specific Crimes (Tipidter) of Bareskrim Polri, Brigadier General M. Irhamni, in his statement on Saturday (2/5/2026).
Irhamni explained that the uncovering of this case was a follow-up to a public report received on 15 April 2026.
“This law enforcement action is a follow-up to information from the public that we received and immediately followed up with an investigation,” Irhamni stated.
On the early morning of 28 April 2026, the team conducted a raid at a warehouse located on Pakis–Daleman Road, Dukuh Klancingan, Sekaran Village, Wonosari Subdistrict, Klaten, which was used for injecting subsidised LPG.
From the location, police secured 1,465 LPG cylinders of various sizes, injection equipment, and six operational vehicles.
