JAKARTA - Bareskrim Polri claims to have successfully prevented state losses of around Rp 6.7 billion through the uncovering of a subsidised LPG misuse case in Klaten Regency, Central Java.

“We have managed to prevent potential state losses of approximately Rp 6.7 billion,” stated the Director of Specific Economic Crimes (Tipidter) at Bareskrim Polri, Brigadier General M. Irhamni, in his remarks on Saturday (2/5/2026).

In the early hours of 28 April 2026, the investigative team conducted a raid on a warehouse at Jalan Pakis–Daleman, Dukuh Klancingan, Sekaran Village, Wonosari Subdistrict, Klaten, which was being used for injecting subsidised LPG.

From the location, police seized 1,465 LPG cylinders of various sizes, injection equipment, and six operational vehicles.

According to Irhamni, the perpetrators used a method of transferring the contents of 3-kilogram subsidised LPG cylinders to 12-kilogram and 50-kilogram non-subsidised cylinders to resell them at higher prices.

“Gas from subsidised cylinders is transferred to non-subsidised cylinders using a specific technique, then sold at non-subsidised prices to gain profit,” he explained.

Irhamni emphasised that his side will continue to develop this case to uncover a wider network, including the possible involvement of financiers.

“We will not stop and will take action up to the financiers and their networks,” he asserted.

“The practice of misusing subsidised goods in this case, LPG or fuel, is not only a betrayal of the state but also a betrayal of the small communities who are entitled to receive this subsidy,” stated Nunung.
