Bareskrim Oversees Death Case of NS in Sukabumi, Investigating Allegations of Negligence by Father
Jakarta — The Directorate of Crimes Against Women and Children (PPA) and Human Trafficking Crimes (PPO) of the Indonesian National Police’s Criminal Investigation Division (Bareskrim Polri) are overseeing the handling of the case involving the death of Nizam Syafei (12), a child from Bojongsari, Jampang Kulon, Sukabumi Regency, West Java.
Brigadier General Nurul Azizah, Director of Crimes Against Women and Children and Human Trafficking at Bareskrim Polri, assured that her office has monitored the case from the outset to ensure professional handling.
“From the beginning, we from the National Police Headquarters have been overseeing this case, providing assistance to ensure it is handled professionally,” Nurul told journalists on Tuesday (3 March 2026).
The case has attracted public attention following allegations of negligence by the victim’s biological father.
“That is correct, both under the Criminal Code and the Child Protection Law,” she said.
Nurul added that her office is currently investigating whether there are indications of negligence in the case.
The investigation is being conducted in cooperation with the General Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditres) of the West Java Police Department.
“I am currently checking whether there are indications of this or not. We are investigating through the Ditres PPA of the West Java Police,” said Nurul.
Commissioner of the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) Diyah Puspitarini characterised the case as filicide, which refers to intentional acts committed by parents to kill their own children.
“Honourable members of the council, we submit that this constitutes filicide, sir. That is, the killing of a child by a parent, whether a biological parent or stepparent,” said Diyah during a session on Monday.
Nizam died on 19 February 2026 at Jampangkulon General Hospital.
Before his death, Nizam gave a statement to medical personnel and police that was subsequently shared widely on social media, in which he claimed he had been forced to drink hot water by his stepmother.
The autopsy results contradicted the perpetrator’s account, which attributed the victim’s death to leukaemia.
Forensic examination revealed blunt trauma and serious burns to the victim’s internal and external organs.
Sukabumi Police have designated the victim’s stepmother, identified as TR (46), as the primary suspect.
