Bareskrim’s Special Economic Crime Directorate (Dittipideksus) Anti-Smuggling Task Force (Satgas Gakkum) has named two new suspects in the case of suspected illegal importation of mobile phones and other electronic goods from China.

Director of Dittipideksus Bareskrim Police, Brigadier General Ade Safri Simanjuntak, confirmed that the two new suspects are executives of import companies. They are TW, director of PT TSI, and MT, director of PT TSL.

“The designation of TW and MT as suspects is based on investigation findings gathered by the probe team, supported by five pieces of evidence including witness statements, expert testimony, documents, physical evidence, and electronic records,” Ade Safri stated in a press release in Jakarta on Friday (29 May).

The suspects face charges under Article 111 in conjunction with Article 47(1) of Law No. 7 of 2014 on Trade, and Article 20 and/or Article 21(1) of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code (KUHP).

To facilitate the investigation, Satgas Gakkum has coordinated with the Directorate General of Immigration under the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Kemenimipas) RI. This step was taken to prevent TW and MT from leaving the country.

Ade Safri emphasised that his team is continuing to investigate the distribution network and import routes of the illegal goods. “The investigation team is still expanding its probe into the distribution network and tracing other parties suspected of involvement,” he added.

The case stems from raids on PT TSL’s office in Sidoarjo, East Java, and a warehouse in Jakarta holding thousands of illegal mobile phones. Previously, police had named two initial suspects, DCP and SJ.

DCP acted as an importer of used (second-hand) goods without SNI labels, while SJ was tasked with distributing the items to the public. With the addition of TW and MT, the total number of suspects in the smuggling network now stands at four.
