Resmob of the Indonesian Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) cracked down on the circulation of nine tonnes of expired imported frozen meat believed to be destined for traditional markets ahead of Eid al-Fitr. The Resmob unit said it had taken action against a person distributing expired imported frozen meat to traditional markets for consumption by people observing the Eid al-Fitr celebrations, said Kombes Teuku Arsya Khadafi, head of the Resmob unit, in a statement received in Jakarta, as reported by Antara on Sunday, 8 March 2026. During the operation, police also seized three trucks transporting the expired imported frozen meat. The suspects and the evidence have been brought to Bareskrim for questioning and further investigation, he added. Regarding case details, Teuku Arsya said he could not provide more information yet as investigations into the suspects are ongoing. For the next steps, investigators will probe the possibility of other distribution networks involved in circulating the expired meat. In addition, the Police have joined the Saber Pangan (Saber) Task Force to monitor food prices, safety, and quality ahead of National Religious Holidays (HBKN), from Chinese New Year (Imlek), Ramadan, to Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr.
