Barelang Area to Become Role Model for New Transmigration Housing
North Gorontalo (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Transmigration (Wamentrans) Viva Yoga Mauladi revealed that the Batam Rempang Galang Transmigration Area (Barelang) will serve as a role model for the construction of new transmigration housing. “The Batam Rempang Galang Transmigration Area (Barelang) has already seen around 3,000 houses built, with some already occupied, and it will become a role model for the construction of new transmigration housing,” said Viva Yoga in Sumalata, North Gorontalo Regency, Gorontalo, on Thursday. According to him, this is in collaboration with relevant stakeholders such as the Ministry of Public Works and BP Batam. “It is in collaboration with other ministries, with the Ministry of Public Works, with BP Batam, so that the synergy of programmes with the Ministry of Transmigration can be accelerated,” he said. For information, the Ministry of Transmigration continues to strengthen the development of the Batam Rempang Galang Transmigration Area (Barelang) with a focus on creating jobs and improving inclusive and sustainable community welfare. Minister of Transmigration (Mentrans) M. Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara stated that the government is striving to ensure that Rempang residents not only relocate to new locations but also have sustainable livelihoods. In supporting the development of the Rempang area, the Ministry of Transmigration collaborates with BP Batam and the Batam City Government, as well as reporting progress regularly to the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono. According to Mentrans, the situation in Rempang over the past year has become increasingly conducive. The more peaceful situation is seen as an important asset for driving area development while creating a healthy investment climate. As a form of direct support to the community, the Ministry of Transmigration has also handed over 16 fishing boats to residents. This assistance is intended so that coastal communities continue to have livelihoods after the area arrangement process is carried out. The development of the Barelang Transmigration Area is expected not only to drive regional economic growth but also to become an example of transmigration area arrangement that prioritises dialogue, welfare, and the sustainability of local communities’ lives.
