The Banyumas Police Resort in Central Java and 27 district police stations in the region are being prepared as free vehicle parking facilities for residents planning to travel home during the 2026 Lebaran exodus.

Banyumas Police Chief Kombes Petrus Silalahi stated that the service is being provided as an effort to assist residents who will be away from home for an extended period during the Lebaran holiday. “Our offices, both at district and resort level, are ready to receive items and motorcycles for residents who will be leaving their homes,” said the Police Chief following a Operasi Lilin Candi deployment ceremony at Banyumas Police Resort on Thursday.

He appealed to the public to coordinate with local authorities before departing. Residents are requested to report their departure plans to the community police officers through their neighbourhood heads so that vacant homes can be monitored by police. “When leaving your home, please inform our officers or the community police in your village through the neighbourhood administration. We will record it, patrol it, and protect it,” he said.

In addition to providing vehicle parking services, the police also reminded residents to ensure their homes are in a safe condition before being vacated. One key emphasis is checking gas installations and ensuring cookers are turned off to prevent fire risks. “Make sure the cooker is not on and the gas regulator has been disconnected. These things are actually known by the public, but are sometimes forgotten,” he said.

To support security during the Lebaran exodus and return period, Banyumas Police Resort is deploying hundreds of personnel at various strategic locations. A total of 822 personnel are being deployed in security operations covering placement at security posts and service posts.

These personnel will be distributed across a number of crowded areas and routes expected to experience heavy traffic flow, such as the Purwokerto Town Square area, Ajibarang, and Kemranjen. “Additionally, security is also focused on passenger arrival points such as Purwokerto Station and Bulupitu Terminal, which are expected to be locations of exodus activity during the Lebaran holiday period,” he added.

The peak Lebaran exodus in 2026 is predicted to increase by 26.29% from normal conditions of 169,868 vehicles to approximately 214,533 vehicles. Peak outbound exodus is forecast for 14–15 March and 18–19 March 2026, whilst peak return traffic is estimated for 24–25 March and 28–29 March 2026.

The Directorate General of Highways at the Ministry of Public Works has identified dozens of congestion and accident-prone locations in the road network in the region. Road users are also urged to be careful of solid road markings which can become slippery when wet.
