The Banyumas Regency Government, Central Java, has declared its readiness for the implementation of the Junior High School Student Admission System (SPMB) for the 2026/2027 academic year. To ensure smooth operations, the local government has updated the registration system and strengthened information technology infrastructure to anticipate technical issues.

The Head of the Banyumas Regency Education Office, Widodo Sugiri, accompanied by the SPMB Committee Chair, Wahyu Adhi Fibrianto, presented these preparations during a press conference at the Ki Hajar Dewantara Hall, Wednesday (3/6).

One of the fundamental changes in this year’s admissions is the separation of the account creation schedule from the school registration schedule. According to Wahyu Adhi, this step was taken to minimise server load and prevent downtime, which frequently occurred in previous years. “Under the previous system, account creation and registration were done simultaneously, resulting in very high server loads. This year, prospective students will create accounts and complete their data first. Once registration opens, they will simply select their target schools without needing to re-upload documents,” he explained.

The Banyumas Government has also refined the residency-based pathway. Previously consisting of only two categories, it has now been expanded to four. This new policy includes the specific RW (community unit) closest to the school as a primary consideration. This measure aims to accommodate students who are geographically very close to a school but are hindered by village or sub-district administrative boundaries. “Now, the nearest RW areas are accommodated, ensuring that the principle of fairness for residents near schools is maintained,” he added.

For the 2026/2027 academic year, there are 73 state junior high schools in Banyumas ready to accommodate 15,552 new students. A total of 486 study groups are available, with a maximum capacity of 32 students per class.

Regarding technological readiness, the Head of the Banyumas Communication and Informatics Office (Kominfo), Budi Nugroho, stated that they have increased server capacity and strengthened data security systems. Kominfo has also coordinated with PLN (the state electricity company) to ensure power stability during the registration period. “We are optimistic that with the increased server capacity and new traffic management, the registration process will run more smoothly and stably compared to last year,” Budi concluded.

The implementation of the SPMB will continue to follow the recommendations of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the Indonesian Ombudsman to guarantee a transparent, accountable process free from illegal levies.
