Dozens of students in Jetis, Bantul, suffered poisoning symptoms after consuming free nutritious meals (MBG) on Monday (13/4). The Bantul Regency Government (Pemkab) has requested that the SPPG supplier providing the food be temporarily halted.

Asisten Pemerintahan dan Kesejahteraan Rakyat Sekretariat Daerah (Setda) Kabupaten Bantul, Hermawan Setiaji, stated that the SPPG supplying the SMP in Jetis was still operating following the suspected poisoning incident. He requested that the SPPG be temporarily stopped.

“If from the Regency Task Force, we hope it closes temporarily until the cause is known. But earlier, the SPPG from the regional coordination reported to the centre and is now awaiting the decision from the centre, as the authority lies with the centre,” he said when contacted by reporters on Tuesday (14/4/2026).

So far, around 80 students and teachers have suffered from MBG poisoning. 77 pupils are from SMPN Jetis, along with two teachers and one pupil from a private SMP in Jetis.

“The latest data indicates there are 80 people suspected of MBG poisoning. But all of them are now in stable condition,” he explained.

Regarding the cause of the dozens of people experiencing food poisoning symptoms, Hermawan admitted he could not yet reveal it. Determining the cause requires laboratory tests on food samples.

“The Bantul Health Office (Dinkes) has already taken food samples and they are currently being tested in the laboratory,” he said.

It was previously reported that dozens of pupils from one SMPN in Jetis, Bantul, suffered poisoning after consuming free nutritious meals (MBG). They experienced poisoning one day after consuming the MBG.

Head of the Disease Prevention Division of the Bantul Health Office, Samsu Aryanto, said that the pupils initially consumed MBG yesterday, on Monday (13/4). The MBG menu at that time consisted of rice, grilled chicken, choy sum vegetable, fried tofu, and watermelon fruit.

“Then this morning, several pupils felt symptoms of nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, and dizziness,” he told reporters on Tuesday (14/4).

Upon learning of this, teachers immediately took the pupils showing poisoning symptoms to Puskesmas 2 Jetis. The number of pupils experiencing poisoning symptoms continued to increase.

“Based on the report from Puskesmas Jetis 2, there are 71 pupils suspected of suffering from MBG poisoning,” he stated.
