Banten Provincial Government Reminds Traders Not to Sell Beef Above Rp140,000 Per Kilogram
Beef is a commodity prone to price increases approaching Eid al-Fitr. The Banten Provincial Government has urged traders not to sell beef above the reference price for sales and purchases (HAP).
Iwan Hermawan, Head of the Industrial and Trade Department (Disperindag) of Banten Province, stated that he has been monitoring beef prices since the beginning of Ramadan. He mentioned that he has reminded slaughterhouses not to sell for more than Rp60,000 per kilogram.
“And at the slaughterhouses it’s Rp60,000. It cannot be more than that. If a slaughterhouse is found selling at a price higher than the set amount, action will definitely be taken by the Ministry of Agriculture,” Iwan said on Wednesday (11 March 2026).
Meanwhile, traders in markets are prohibited from selling beef above Rp140,000. If any traders sell above that price, they will be investigated.
“So now the maximum price set is Rp140,000. (If higher) we will investigate,” he said.
Iwan also disclosed that he had checked traders in Ciruas, Serang Regency, who were selling beef above Rp140,000. He immediately clarified the matter with the trader.
“Once in Ciruas, there was a report of beef being sold above Rp140,000, specifically at Rp150,000. We went there, and it turned out they were merely offering it. The trader was negotiating with buyers, and it ultimately settled at the Rp140,000 price,” he said.
Meanwhile, for chicken meat, market prices are higher compared to the HAP. The government is currently undertaking efforts to reduce chicken prices.
“Chicken at Rp40,000 per kilogram, we are following up on. Bapanas has already communicated with companies in Serang Regency to pressure prices at the distributor level. The chicken meat HAP is Rp36,000,” he said.
