Banten Provincial Government Prioritises Six Alternative Road Routes for 2026 Mudik Season
Serang (ANTARA) - The Banten Provincial Government is prioritising the maintenance of six provincial road segments ahead of the 2026 Lebaran homecoming (mudik) season to support smooth traffic flow, particularly access to the tourist areas of Anyer, Carita, Tanjung Lesung, and Sawarna.
Head of the Banten Provincial Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (PUPR) Arlan Marzan said that aside from toll roads and national arterial roads under central government authority, provincial roads are being prepared as alternative routes and buffers for vehicle movements.
"There are six provincial road segments that are our maintenance priorities. In accordance with the Governor's directive, all potholes must be addressed by ten days before Lebaran. This is essential to ensure that public travel, especially towards tourist areas, can proceed safely and comfortably," said Arlan in a statement in Serang on Tuesday.
The six road segments targeted for repair and maintenance are Taktakan–Gunung Sari, Palima–Cinangka, Mengger–Saringin, Saketi–Malingping, Citeras–Tigaraksa, and Ciruas–Petir–Warung Gunung.
These segments are considered strategically important as they serve as primary access routes to Banten's coastal and southern tourist destinations, which are expected to experience increased mobility during the Lebaran holiday.
Arlan emphasised that the main homecoming and return traffic flows remain centred on the toll road and arterial route from Jakarta to Merak. However, provincial roads play an important role in easing congestion should vehicle build-ups occur on the main routes.
"The function of provincial roads is to support and serve as strategic alternative routes for homecoming travellers and tourists alike," he said.
To maintain smooth traffic flow, the Banten PUPR Agency is also temporarily postponing major construction projects that could potentially cause road closure systems. This measure is being taken to avoid creating additional obstacles during the homecoming and return period.
"We have opted to optimise routine maintenance work to ensure road conditions remain in good order. The temporary postponement of construction projects is being carried out to avoid creating new obstacles for road users during the homecoming period," said Arlan.
The Banten Provincial Government is targeting the completion of all patching and pothole repair work before ten days prior to Lebaran, ensuring provincial road conditions are in good order during the peak homecoming period. This effort forms part of a broader strategy to maintain safety, comfort, and smooth mobility for the public during Eid al-Fitr 2026.
