Banten Police Establish Vehicle Checkpoints in Cilegon Timur for 2026 Eid Holiday Return
The Banten Regional Police have constructed a vehicle screening post in Cilegon Timur to manage the flow of homebound travellers during the Eid holiday period. Officers will regulate vehicle types and direct them to appropriate ports.
Regional Police Chief Irjen Hengki inspected the screening post construction in Cilegon Timur on Wednesday, 11 March 2026. Hengki reviewed the facility to be used during “Operasi Ketupat Maung 2026” scheduled for 13–25 March 2026.
“The screening operation will be relocated to Cilegon Timur. Starting at 15:00 Western Indonesian Time, class 5B and 6B vehicles will be directed by officers to Ciwandan Port, whilst vehicles with three axles or classes 7, 8, and 9 will be directed to BBJ Port. Merak Port will handle pedestrians, private vehicles, and buses,” Hengki explained.
Hengki stated that integrated posts, security posts, and health posts have been prepared to serve travellers passing through the region.
“We have established 6 integrated posts, 39 security posts, 10 service posts, 2 search-and-rescue posts, health posts, and prayer facilities,” he explained.
Hengki also inspected supporting facilities at Ciwandan Port and Merak Port. During the visit, Hengki was accompanied by Merak Port General Manager Umar Imran Batubara, Ciwandan Pelindo Port General Manager Benny Ariady, and senior Banten Police officials.
Ciwandan Pelindo Port has allocated 12 lanes for motorcycles, with each lane accommodating 400 vehicles.
“Total capacity reaches approximately 4,800 to 5,000 motorcycles. For class 5B and 6B vehicles, capacity is around 400 to 500 vehicles. When the ship docks and doors open, vehicles are ready to board since tickets have already been collected. The facility will also be equipped by ASDP with ticket counter tents featuring electronic tap systems, informal merchant areas, and portable toilets,” he added.
Hengki appealed to travellers to turn off vehicle engines whilst waiting for the ferry to ensure collective comfort and health. “We urge motorcycle travellers to remain in tents whilst waiting to board. Additionally, vehicle engines should be temporarily switched off to avoid exposure to carbon monoxide gas, which can negatively impact health,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Banten Police Public Relations Chief Kombes Pol Maruli Ahiles Hutapea announced that the public can also store vehicles free of charge at regional police headquarters, district police stations, and local police posts.
“The public can store vehicles at police headquarters, district stations, and local posts at no charge. Please present proof of vehicle ownership, and we will provide a receipt as proof of deposit. We offer this to provide security for travellers who leave their vehicles,” he said.
