Banten ETKI Special Economic Zone to Focus on Health and Education Sectors in 2026
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Banten International Education, Technology, and Health Special Economic Zone (KEK ETKI), also known as the D-HUB Special Economic Zone (D-HUB SEZ), will focus on the health and education sectors this year.
“This year, we are still focusing on the health sector, considering that the government provides the most benefits in this sector. So this year, we hope that all tenants in the Biomedical Campus building can open and start operating. In addition, we are still in discussions with several partners for international hospitals,” said the Head of the Development and Management Agency (BUPP) of the Banten ETKI Special Economic Zone, Lindawaty, in Jakarta on Wednesday (February 25) evening.
In addition to the health sector, Lindawaty added that another focus in 2026 is education, given that the Banten ETKI Special Economic Zone is one of the most suitable locations for the education sector.
“Because we are also following up on the direction from President Prabowo regarding his visit to England in January, where the government hopes to bring 10 foreign universities to Indonesia. One of the most suitable locations is indeed in the Special Economic Zone, because the benefits offered by the Special Economic Zone will certainly support this target,” she said.
The Banten ETKI Special Economic Zone was inaugurated on October 7, 2024, through Government Regulation No. 38 of 2024, as the only Special Economic Zone in the Jabodetabek area. While the health sector is its main focus, the Banten ETKI Special Economic Zone is also developing three other high-value sectors: education, digital technology, and the creative economy, making BSD City a strategic hub for national and global opportunities.
“In terms of investment, we have collected Rp1.19 trillion and absorbed 830 workers in 2025, with a long-term target of Rp18.8 trillion over the next 20 years,” said Lindawaty.
For information, Indonesia, with 280 million people and 70 percent of the population of productive age, has the potential to drive high-value industries, sustainable growth, and global competitiveness.
One of the significant potentials is the health sector, where more than two million Indonesians spend approximately $11.5 billion per year on medical treatment abroad, with more than 75 percent from the upper-middle class. This outflow of foreign exchange indicates a gap and an urgent need to provide world-class health services closer to the community.
The government is optimising this opportunity through Special Economic Zones (KEK) as economic drivers, one of which is the Banten International Education, Technology, and Health Special Economic Zone (ETKI) in BSD City.
While the health sector is its main focus, the Banten ETKI Special Economic Zone is also developing three other high-value sectors: education, digital technology, and the creative economy, making BSD City a strategic hub for national and global opportunities.
BSD City provides 60 hectares specifically for the Banten ETKI Special Economic Zone. Located 30 minutes from Jakarta and Soekarno-Hatta Airport, this area is projected to create 13,000 new jobs for more than 32 million people in Jabodetabek, while also having a national impact.
In addition to modern infrastructure, this area provides various investment facility incentives for global investors, including fiscal incentives such as tax holidays/tax allowances, exemption from VAT, luxury goods tax, import duties, and excise duties, as well as non-fiscal incentives including simpler licensing and bureaucracy, easier immigration, smooth flow of goods and labor, and supportive spatial planning.
