Banten Deputy Governor opens complaint channel for students facing diploma withholding

Tangerang (ANTARA) - Banten Deputy Governor Dimyati Natakusumah has opened a channel for the public to submit complaints about experiencing diploma withholding by schools.

He stated that cases of diploma withholding are one of thousands that must be resolved by the government. According to him, the state must be present to provide solutions to this issue, especially for students who are unable to pay.

“I will first request the data on how many private schools are still withholding diplomas. I am certain there are many, even possibly tens of thousands. After that, we will find solutions together,” Dimyati said in his statement in Tangerang on Tuesday.

This statement from Deputy Governor Dimyati came after facilitating the resolution process for diploma withholding carried out by a private school against a student from an underprivileged family who had not completed financial administration.

“Quickly collect your diploma, yes? Mr Principal, please send the school’s bank account number soon, and I will transfer the money,” he said.

Dimyati exemplified the school providing a relaxation policy on the amount to be paid, only 50 percent of the total obligation.

“The main point is that in the future, no school should withhold diplomas, because diplomas are important for continuing education or applying for jobs. Moreover, since last year, we have made education free in private schools,” he said.

Deputy Governor Dimyati also reminded all assisted students to maintain high spirits for learning and working. The assistance provided should not make them lazy.

“Remember, this assistance must become motivation to be better, more diligent in working. Do not be lazy,” he said to the students whose diplomas were withheld.
