Serang (ANTARA) - The Banten and Lampung Police forces are synchronising data and security strategies to ensure smooth traffic flow during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday across Java and Sumatra.

The Chief of Lampung Police, Inspector General Pol Helfi Assegaf, said that the inter-sectoral coordination meeting was held to align data on ships, ports, passenger numbers, and fluctuation patterns based on evaluations from 2024-2025.

“Our presence at this inter-sectoral coordination meeting is to synchronise data and prepare anticipatory measures to handle the flow of travellers from Java to Sumatra and vice versa,” he said at the Banten Police Headquarters, Serang City, Wednesday.

He added that preventative measures are being prepared to prevent vehicle congestion, including the implementation of a delaying system and the use of five rest areas in Lampung.

“Vehicle localisation from Palembang towards Jakarta will be carried out if congestion occurs,” he said.

In addition to traffic and ferry aspects, local governments are strengthening basic services for travellers.

Meanwhile, the Regional Secretary of Banten Province, Deden Apriandhi, stated that they are preparing health posts and providing lighting support in vulnerable areas.

“The local government will work with regencies and cities to prepare health posts to facilitate travellers,” he said.

He also affirmed support for improving street lighting on provincial and regency/city roads to enhance safety.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Banten Police, Inspector General Pol Hengki, emphasised the importance of adhering to SOPs and communication between posts in Merak and Bakauheni to quickly respond to green, yellow, or red conditions.

“In green, yellow, or red conditions, there are SOPs as a reference. However, if urgent conditions occur, discretion can be exercised while still coordinating,” he said.

Through inter-provincial coordination and strengthened services, the authorities hope that the 2026 Eid al-Fitr travel period can run safely, smoothly, and under control.
