The Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST) Bantargebang in Ciketing Udik Village, Bantargebang District, Bekasi City, West Java, collapsed on Sunday, 8 March 2026. The Indonesian National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) confirmed the incident resulted in three fatalities.

The Head of Jakarta SAR Operations, Desiana Kartika Bahari, explained that the three victims comprised two women and one man, who were food stall owners and a truck driver. “The identified victims are Enda Widayanti (25 years old) and Sumine (60), both food stall owners, whilst the third victim, Dedi Sutrisno, was a truck driver,” she stated.

Desiana added that the agency is continuing to collect victim data as numerous garbage trucks and food stalls remain buried at the site. “Victim counting is currently ongoing,” she said.

The SAR team has deployed multiple personnel from the Bekasi City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and the Jakarta Provincial BPBD, alongside rescue equipment for evacuation operations.

The Metro Jaya Police Regional Command suspects additional victims remain buried in the waste pile collapse at TPST Bantargebang. “There are suspected other victims who have not yet been found, as well as several garbage trucks buried under the collapse material,” stated Metro Jaya Police Public Relations Chief, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, on Sunday.

Budi explained that the Metro Jaya Police Regional Command responded to the incident, which occurred around 14:00 Western Indonesian Time at the DKI TPST Zone 4C, Cikiwul Village, Bantargebang District, Bekasi City. Regarding the exact number of victims, Budi stated the figure remains pending the results of ongoing search and data collection efforts.

“Concerning the waste pile collapse at TPST Bantargebang in Bekasi City, the Metro Jaya Police Regional Command has taken field action,” he said.

A video circulating on Instagram from the account @lbj_jakarta previously showed the Bantargebang waste pile collapsing again, with several trucks reported buried.

“This incident, occurring around 15:30 Western Indonesian Time, was triggered by heavy rainfall that had been battering the Bekasi region since the afternoon. The critical height of the waste pile rendered it unstable, causing waste material to spill out, blocking road access and burying trucks queued for unloading operations,” the account stated.
