Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has highlighted the importance of waste processing facilities at the Rorotan RDF Plant following a waste pile collapse at the Bantargebang Temporary Final Disposal Site (TPST) in Bekasi City on Sunday, 8 March 2026.

Pramono stated that the collapse serves as a reminder that Jakarta must reduce its reliance on Bantargebang as its primary waste disposal site.

According to the governor, one measure the Jakarta Provincial Government is implementing is accelerating the operational timeline for the RDF waste processing facility in Rorotan, North Jakarta.

“If 1,000 tonnes can be processed at Rorotan, that would already be quite significant in reducing the amount of waste sent to Bantargebang,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Monday, 9 March 2026.

The government hopes the commissioning process will be completed soon so the facility can begin normal operations.

“We are currently conducting commissioning at Rorotan. Hopefully it will be completed soon so that Rorotan can operate normally,” he said.

Pramono acknowledged that the facility’s capacity cannot immediately reach the original targets as planned. However, if it can process approximately 1,000 tonnes of waste daily, this would be sufficient to help reduce the burden on Bantargebang.

Currently, the volume of waste from Jakarta sent to Bantargebang reaches approximately 7,400 to 8,000 tonnes per day.

This situation is increasingly straining the landfill’s limited capacity.

“Our waste is between 7,400 and 8,000 tonnes, usually more on weekends. There will definitely be an impact, and we will conduct sorting at the endpoint,” he said.

For this reason, the Jakarta Provincial Government continues to seek ways to reduce its dependence on Bantargebang.

“And to ensure that not everything is sent to Bantargebang. Because Bantargebang must start imposing restrictions, as its capacity is already very limited,” Pramono said.
