Bantargebang Landslide: Pramono Questions Why Workers Continued Operations During Heavy Rainfall
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung criticised worker activity at the Bantargebang Transfer Station (TPST) during heavy rainfall that resulted in flooding across several locations. He made these remarks following a waste landslide that claimed several lives.
“Knowing the rainfall was heavy, why did they continue working?” Pramono said in a video uploaded to his TikTok account @Pramono Anung.
The PDI Perjuangan cadre visited the Bantargebang TPST in Bekasi, West Java, on Monday, 9 March 2026, one day after the landslide disaster occurred in zone 4A at 14:30 WIB. Heavy rainfall caused water to infiltrate the waste mounds at Bantargebang, triggering the collapse.
Separately, Pramono stated that the Jakarta Provincial Government would strengthen its waste sorting system. This measure was necessary to prevent all waste from Jakarta being sent to the Bantargebang TPST.
“Our waste volume ranges from 7,400 to 8,000 tonnes per day. The vast majority is not sorted before being sent to Bantargebang,” Pramono told journalists at Jakarta City Hall.
Pramono said the Jakarta Provincial Government was preparing two temporary disposal sites to accommodate waste from Jakarta. The two additional zones were being set up temporarily whilst awaiting restoration of the landslide area in zone 4A.
Meanwhile, the Jakarta Basarnas recorded 13 people as victims of the waste mountain landslide that occurred on Sunday, 8 March 2026. Four people were rescued: Budiman, Joha, Safifudin, and Slamet.
The identified deceased include warung owner Enda Widayanti, 25; warung owner Sumine, 60; truck driver Dedi Sutrisno; and Irwan Supriatin.
“Plus one more body was just found by officers. We are still searching for four missing victims,” said Jakarta Basarnas spokesman Romli Prasetyo in Jakarta on Monday.
