JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Bantaragung Hanging Bridge in Sokawati Village, Ampelgading District, Pemalang Regency, is back in operation after being severed by flash floods in January 2026.

The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has completed the rehabilitation of the bridge to restore connectivity for residents that was previously disrupted.

Following instructions from Minister of PU Dody Hanggodo, the Central Java-DIY Yogyakarta Major National Road Implementation Agency (BBPJN) immediately coordinated with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Pemalang Regency Government to accelerate the rehabilitation process.

“I have instructed my agency head to immediately carry out the rehabilitation of the bridge in Pemalang Regency. Isolated villages must be reconnected as soon as possible. Alhamdulillah, through cooperation between the Ministry of PU, TNI, local government, and all community elements, it is now reconnected,” said Dody, quoted from an official statement on Friday (03/04/2026).

“The construction of this bridge is a follow-up to the President’s directive to the Ministry of PU, TNI, and local government to assist communities in affected areas,” said Achiruddin.

Head of BBPJN Central Java-DIY Yogyakarta, Moch. Iqbal Tamher, explained that the bridge construction resulted from collaboration between the Ministry of PU, TNI through Kodam IV Diponegoro, and the Pemalang Regency Government.

The Bantaragung Hanging Bridge has a total length of 162 metres, consisting of a main span of 67 metres and approach roads of 95 metres. Reconstruction took place from late January to mid-February 2026.

The bridge connects Dukuh Bantaragung and Dukuh Kalilanang in Sokawati Village, which has long served as the primary access for residents’ mobility.

With the bridge now operational again, community activities are proceeding more smoothly, safely, and comfortably.

Management and maintenance of the bridge have been handed over to the Pemalang Regency Government to ensure the sustainability of the infrastructure’s function.

With access restored, the bridge is expected to further strengthen regional connectivity and encourage the resumption of social and economic activities in Pemalang Regency and surrounding areas.
