Bank Permata Delays Spin-Off of Sharia Unit, Assets Not Yet Sufficient
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - PT Bank Permata Tbk is still holding off on plans to separate its Sharia business unit. The bank has chosen to focus on strengthening the fundamentals of its Sharia business.
This decision was taken because the asset position does not yet meet regulatory requirements. The bank also wants to improve the financing and funding structure to make it more balanced.
CFO and Head of Sharia Business Unit at Permata Bank, Rudy Basyir Ahmad, stated that the assets of the Sharia business unit are around Rp 37 trillion. This value is still below the minimum threshold of Rp 50 trillion required for the spin-off.
He emphasised that this decision is not only influenced by the size of the assets. The readiness of the business structure is also a primary consideration.
“We want to ensure that the bank’s balance sheet is sufficiently diversified, not just focused on certain segments,” said Rudy at Plaza Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (22/4/2026).
He noted that financing is still concentrated in the corporate segment and asset ownership credit. This situation is prompting the bank to expand penetration into other sectors.
The targeted segments include commercial, small and medium enterprises, as well as non-mortgage retail. This diversification is expected to create a more balanced portfolio.
“Currently, to be open, Permata’s balance sheet is quite concentrated in corporate and mortgage. This is what we need to strengthen so that it can be more diversified in terms of financing, also strong in commercial, strong in SMEs, and also strong in retail outside of mortgage. That’s our way of strengthening,” he explained.
This step is considered important to support more stable business growth.
“One of them is also strengthening from the funding side, including funding from retail segments,” said Rudy.
PermataBank views the strengthening of fundamentals as an important stage before the spin-off is carried out. This step is expected to make the Sharia entity more ready to compete in the industry.
