Bank Mashill rated the country's best bank by 'InfoBank'
JAKARTA (JP): Bank Mashill, Bank ANZ Panin and Bank Hanil Tamara are the countries' best large, medium and small banks respectively according to InfoBank magazine.
The ratings were announced yesterday.
The other best big banks, with assets over Rp 1 trillion (US$ 410 million), include -- in descending order -- Bank Bira (second place), Bank Surya, Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi, Bank Tiara, Bank NISP, Bank Putera Surya Perkasa, Bank Tamara, Bank Panin and Bank Umum Servitia.
The other best medium banks, with assets of Rp 500 to Rp 1 trillion, include Bank Risjad Salim, Bank Ekonomi, BPD (provincial development bank) Sumatera Barat, Bank Finconesia, Bank Bahari, Bank IFI, Bank Tokai Lippo Bank, Bank Haga and Bank CIC.
And the other best small banks, with assets below Rp 500 billion, include Bank Pikko, BPD Yogyakarta, Bank Prasidha, Bank Liman International, Bank Bersaudara Jaya, BPD Sulawesi Tenggara, Bank Ganesha, Bank Himpunan Saudara and BPD Bali.
The magazine rated 25 publicly listed banks as very sound, sound and moderately sound. It rated Bank Pikko the best publicly listed bank, followed by Bank Mashill, Bank Bira, Bank Surya, Bank Tiara, Bank NISP, Bank Tamara, Bank Panin, Bank Umum Servitia and Bank Bali.
Eko Budi Supriyanto, managing editor and head of the magazine's rating team, said the ratings were based on the central bank's soundness rating ratios, excluding that on management quality.
"We use ratio analyses and trends to rate the 239 banks. But please bear in mind that we do not use the ratio on management," Eko said.
The ratios used were the capital adequacy ratio, net interest margin, return on average assets, return on average equity, efficiency, loan to deposit and loan loss reserve ratio.
The magazine used banks' growth trends in its rating calculations, including asset, equity, productive asset, profits, credits and third-party funds trends.
It also took banks' records on legal lending limits into account.
Unhealthy banks
The magazine's rating also listed for the first time badly performing banks, 20, and unhealthy banks, 19.
Badly performing big banks include Bank Utama and state-owned Bank Bumi Daya. Badly performing medium banks are American Express Bank, Bank Societe Generale Indonesia and Bank Susila Bakti.
And small poorly performing banks include Bank Jakarta, Bank Kosa, Bank Dwipa Semesta, Bank Mitraniaga, Bank Paribas-BBD Indonesia, Bank Danpac, Bank Patriot, Bank Mataram Dhanarta, Bank Indomonex, Bank Sangga Kencana, BPD Sulawesi Utara, Bank Raja Internasional, Bank Prima Master, Bank INA Perdana and Bank Alfa.
Unhealthy big banks include state-owned Bank Pembangunan Indonesia, Bank Pacific, Bank Yama, Bank Uppindo and Bank Perniagaan.
Unhealthy medium banks are Bank Dana Asia, Bank Industri and Bank Pinaesaan.
Unhealthy small banks include Bank Umum Majapahit Jaya, Bank Arta Prima, Agrobank, Bank Dewa Rutji, Bank Intan, Bank Anrico, BPD Kalimantan Barat, BPD Maluku, BPD Lampung and Bank Asta. (rid)
